Saturday 5th May we travelled via Bandol to La
Tour Fondue. Bandol beach was really nice so we parked Blossom and had some
lunch. There was a boat show on along the side of the Marina so we had a wee
stroll round that and then headed for La Tour Fondue which is south of Hyeres
on a peninsula near Giens. The site is right next to the harbour where the
ferry runs to the Iles D’Hyeres . We were going to take the ferry on Sunday but
remembered that the moto GP was on at 2pm. So we went in search of a television
to watch the GP but couldn’t find one. We walked down to the ferry terminal to
see how much the trips were and once we saw the price we changed our minds.
We moved on on Sunday morning towards St Tropez and headed
for a site at Les Mures which is on St Tropez bay but opposite St Tropez
itself. As you can imagine they don’t want us undesirables parking to close to
the beautiful people, we were about 12 km round the bay. Really nice site right
on the beach, on the sand. The restaurant on the site put the telly on for us
to watch the GP. The camping site next to ours is holding a Harley Davidson
convention which starts on Thursday and they are expecting around 15,000 bikes
to arrive between now and then. The site we are on already has a few Harleys on
it and there is an abundance of open piped Harleys fleeing about. In the afternoon
Kev went out for a cycle round the bay to St Tropez and said it wasn’t that far
after all so we have decide to go on Tuesday as that’s the day of the local
market.
Monday was another beautiful day so we lazed about watching
the boats in the bay go by. In the afternoon we cycled to the hillside village
of Grimaud. It was a bit of a cycle as you can imagine the clue is in hillside
village. Got there eventually. We climbed up to the ruined castle at the top of
the hill from where the views were spectacular, you could see for miles all
around.
Tuesday we cycled to St Tropez, there was a cycle track all
the way there and it was mostly on the flat but it still took me about 45 mins
to get there but only 25mins to get back. Stopped at the market, not sure how
the people here can afford to eat as everything is so expensive. After leaving
the market we went down to the harbour in search of celebs but didn’t see any!
Must have heard we were coming and stayed in for the day. We did a bit of
people watching from one of the harbour side cafes which proved to be a bit
pricey, 12.50 for a coffee and small beer. Well, we were in St Tropez after
all.
On Wednesday we left and drove to Antibes, although it was
only about 80km away from where we were it took about 2 hrs and it was quite a
difficult drive for Kev. Today, Thursday we took the TGV train to Monte Carlo
where we are sitting in a café using the free WiFi, although we have had to buy
2 coffees, don’t know yet how much that is. Tomorrow we are heading for Nice
and then back to Cannes on Saturday then Italy here we come.

ReplyDeleteGood to see that the trip is going well and that you're getting about the sights. A lyric comes to mind reading this "sitting on the dock of the bay, watching the time flow away, sitting on the dock of the bay, wasting tii i ii ime! Do do dodo, do. etc......"
