Well we finally left the comfort and good weather of Benidorm on Monday 16th. It rained quite heavily during the night for the first time in weeks. We moved on to a site which has only recently opened at the end of last year, Marjal Costa Blanca near Crevillante. On the way there we stopped to stock up at Lidl, Iceland and Carrefour. We spent about 200 euros but that did include a new vacuum as my hair kept choking the other vacuum and breaking the belt. The rest was food and alcohol, hope it last us a while.
When we arrived at the site we went for a cycle round, there are 1500 pitches on the site. On our way round we found Dave and his cute little dog Molly who had been at Oropesa when we were there. That night the rain was torrential and the winds were really strong so we didn’t get much sleep.
On Wednesday we travelled via the N340 past Murcia to Puerto del Mazerron. We had planned to stay a couple of nights but the only pitches left were pretty grotty so we moved on to Cabo de Gata. This site was quite nice, it is in one of the national parks surrounded by desert but nothing much there apart from the beach. It is amazing that all the sites that we have been to on the coast are nearly always full, mainly German, Dutch, British, Belgian and Italian.
On Friday we arrived in Granada following the A92 all the way through and around the Sierra Nevada. The views were spectacular and the snow capped mountains looked like they had been dusted with icing sugar. We stayed at a small site just south of Granada in La Zubia. It is a lot colder here than down by the coast. We had a cycle around La Zubia on Friday and then on Saturday we took the bus to Granada and then onto the Alhambra. It was a lovely day out but very tiring with loads of walking. We spent about 4 hours walking round the palace and all the other buildings. The history is fascinating and the buildings are in such good repair, it was quite magical at times.
We were going to stay here for a few nights but due to the electricity supply being only 6 amps and the supply tripping all the time we moved on Sunday to Torre Del Mar but not without another Griswald moment. It was the sat navs fault really, it kept telling us to go onto an unfinished motorway and instead of trying to find our way back to the previous motorway we headed for the hills. We ended up going higher and higher up into the hills on narrow little roads and through mountain villages where they probably don’t see many motorhomes passing through. Gave the locals something to gawp at though, not often they would see Chevy Chase driving a motorhome through their village. Anyway after our hour long detour we made it back to civilization and ahhhhh back to the warmth again.
Another broken appliance, my induction hob died today, more expense. This is our third appliance to break so lets hope that’s an end to it.
Kev’s mum stayed in Torre Del Mar for a couple of years back in the 80’s. The site we are on is only about 500 yards from her old apartment. Kev came out here when his mum was here with the intention of getting a job and staying here, but things didn’t work out and he came back to Aberdeen. His friends were gutted as they had clubbed together for a leaving present and he was only gone 6 weeks.
On Wednesday we took the bus from Torre Del Mar to Nerja. Had a wander around and looked at the touristy things, not a lot to see here, nice town and beaches. Totally forgot it was Burns Night and had forgotten to take the haggis out of the freezer, having it tonight though, yum yum.
We are planning to move on tomorrow, Friday to Marbella area.
