Picking the grapefruits

A night out with our good friends Jessie & John

Remember the film twins?

27 April 2012

Well we finally made it out of Benidorm and spent two days back at Gata de Gorgos with Joe and Marlene. We were well looked after, Marlene is a fantastic cook and Joe is a good barman. We left Gata de Gorgos with Lemons, Grapefruits and Kumquats all picked by ourselves out of the garden. Also some wild garlic which was picked while out walking Morag and Hamish the basset hounds. Marlene also gave us a jar of the yummiest ever homemade lemon curd, which is almost finished boohoo, and a jar of homemade kumquat chutney, great with pate, what a pair of scroungers. So, who can we visit next? Look out it could be you!!!!!

Moving on we are back at Oropesa del Mar where we spent some time in November. On Tuesday morning we were up at about 5am along with our neighbours to take in our awning as the winds were really strong. Late morning we cycled to Benicassim, about 15km from Oropesa, along a track called the Via Verde and had a really nice lunch, Kev had cows cheeks!. Haven’t really been up to much else, cycling to town to the square for coffee, visiting the beautiful gardens here and walks on the beach. At night we go to sleep to the sound of the waves, soooooooooo relaxing.

Tomorrow we are moving on heading north up the coast not sure yet where we will be stopping, will let you know once we get there.

11 April 2011

Sorry not to have blogged recently but not much has been happening as we have been back in Benidorm since 23 February, just relaxing. We came back to see my cousin Sandy whose dad, my Uncle Ray, had just had his leg amputated from mid thigh, he’s 88 years old. We were planning to stay for two weeks and then move on but my cousin Derry from San Francisco was coming over on 26th March so we decided to wait until he arrived, it would have been a shame not to have met up with him. So on the 26th March my cousin Sandy, his wife Sue and cousin Derry arrived.  On the 29th March Laura arrived to stay with us along with my brother Ian and his wife Ann. On the 30th Sandy and Sue went home and my cousin Elsie Ann arrived with her husband David, her son Richard and his wife Debbie and their baby Edward. Ian and Ann left on the 2nd April and Laura left on the 3rd with all the others leaving on the 6th. On the 7th we met up, in Benidorm, for lunch with my nephew Stewart and his girlfriend Maria, who live in Madrid. It has been so good to have some family around and we have had a great time with them but it makes you a wee bit homesick. Family having all deserted us now we are back to visiting Uncle Ray who is making good progress and adjusting well to his new lifestyle.

We are planning now to leave Benidorm on the 18th April and visit Joe and Marlene at Gata de Gorgos (where Blossom was stuck in the arch) and then head up to Andorra, depending on the weather there, or the South of France and on to Italy. Will keep you posted of where we are next.

Really haven’t done much at all but enjoy the sunshine, food and drink in Benidorm but we are really looking forward to being back on the road. Eating out here is so cheap, 4.95€ for three course Chinese meal plus ½ bottle of wine each, carvery for 4.95€ and so on, weight is piling on.  As the van was overweight before we left we have spent the day packing away all the items we no longer require or didn’t need in the first place and will send these back to the UK, we reckon we have packed at least 50kgs of items.

We have now been in Spain since the beginning of November but this is where the best of the weather has been. As we have been in Benidorm so long I decided Kev should get a part time job, photo to follow hope it makes you laugh, check out the company car.
